Why Changing Your HVAC Filter Matters
Your air filter is one of the smallest parts of your heating and cooling system, but it has a big impact on how well everything runs. A clogged filter forces your system to work harder to move air, which leads to higher energy bills, more wear on parts, and lower indoor air quality.
Fewer Costly Repairs
A clogged filter restricts airflow, and that puts strain on parts that are expensive to fix. Your blower motor has to work harder to push air through a dirty filter, which can cause it to wear out early. In the winter, your furnace's heat exchanger can overheat without enough airflow, triggering safety shutoffs and leading to cracks over time. In the summer, your AC's evaporator coil can freeze up when warm air can't move across it, stopping your system from cooling. Many of the repair calls we see in the Treasure Valley start with a filter that hasn't been changed in months.
A Longer-Lasting HVAC System
A clean filter keeps dust from building up inside your HVAC system. Less buildup means less wear, so your equipment can last longer and run more reliably.
Lower Energy Bills
When air can't flow freely, your system has to run longer to heat or cool your home. That extra run time shows up on your energy bill. A clean filter lets air move easily, so your system can reach the temperature you want faster and hold it steady without working overtime.
Cleaner Indoor Air
Your filter is your home's first line of defense against dust, pet hair, pollen, and smoke. Keeping it clean means fewer particles in the air and in your system.
Signs It's Time to Change Your Filter
- The filter looks gray or dusty
- Weaker airflow coming from your vents
- Rooms take longer to heat up or cool down
- Allergy symptoms are worse inside
- A dusty or stale smell when the HVAC system kicks on
HVAC Filter Delivery FAQs
Is HVAC filter delivery really free?
Yes, filter delivery is completely free. You only pay for the cost of the filter itself, with no delivery fees, service charges, or markup. Delivery is available to homes in Nampa, Caldwell, Boise, Meridian and surrounding Treasure Valley areas.
How often should I change my HVAC filter?
Most homes should change their HVAC filter every 1 to 3 months, but it ultimately depends on your filter size and conditions in your home. Standard 1-inch filters fill up faster, while thicker 4 or 5-inch filters can last longer. Homes with pets, allergies, nearby construction, or seasonal factors like wildfire smoke may need to change filters more often.
Do I need to be a Greens customer to get filter delivery?
No, you don't need to be an existing customer. Any homeowner can sign up for one-time or scheduled filter delivery. Just call our office to get started.
What if I don't know my air filter size?
Your filter size is usually printed on the side of your current filter, such as 16x25x1. Call us if you're having trouble locating the size of your filter.
