Hello, my name is Dan Casper, and I am the owner of Greens Heating & Air Conditioning. The first question I'm usually asked is, “If your name is Casper, why is the company called Greens?”
Well, I’m more than happy to tell you that story.
We hear the word “green” quite often these days. In all honesty, however, we must tell you that Greens Heating came into existence years before it became fashionable to “Go Green!”
Greens Heating is a local, family business that believes success comes from offering fantastic customer service, quality craftsmanship, and reliable products built to last.
From Humble Beginnings
Our company name was easier to come up with than you might think!
In the late 1980s, my good friend Cliff Green and I decided to go into business together. We started out with a repurposed work van and a storage shed in Nampa.
We often started our mornings with coffee at the local diner, a popular spot for building contractors. We eventually worked up the courage to approach one of the most successful contractors in the area. It seemed almost unbelievable, but we secured a major client that day!
We later found out we caught him on a day when he was fed up with heating and cooling companies that offered poor service and low-quality work. He trusted us, and a new business relationship was born.
Built on a Handshake
Business relationships were different back then. They often existed on a handshake. I'll never forget the builder who signed a blank check and told me, “Just give me a call later and let me know how much you filled it out for.”
We had a similar relationship with our supplier, who gave us a key to their warehouse for after-hours needs and simply asked that we leave them a list of what we took. That same trust and honesty is what we bring to every customer relationship today.
We were all neighbors in our corner of the Treasure Valley, looking out for one another.
A Heartbreaking Day
On a Friday morning in December 1995, Cliff and I went to work as usual. Later that day, Cliff suffered a heart attack and passed away at just 43 years old. I can truly say that the years Cliff and I spent working together are some of the best memories of my life.
He was a great guy and a true friend.
I was determined to keep the company going and honor Cliff’s memory. Nearly 30 years have passed, and while ways of doing business have changed, our core values of honesty and trustworthiness are still the same.
More Than a Service
Through the years, Greens Heating has formed many relationships in the Treasure Valley. We take pride in not only caring for our customers’ heating and cooling needs but also helping our friends.
I remember putting together an exercise bike for an elderly gentleman and one of our technicians dusting a customer’s plant shelves.
Once, my wife, Candy, took a call from an elderly woman who had recently lost her husband.
“You sent a sympathy card and said I could call if I needed anything," she told my wife. “Well, I can't get up on the ladder to hang my new kitchen curtains.”
My wife grabbed one of our young apprentices, and they went over with a drill and hung the curtain rods and curtains. The customer was thrilled.
These stories fill our memories and are the foundation on which our company is built.
